Three Star Receiver Commits to Toledo

January 23rd, 2007
By Brian Nowicki

Three star wide receiver Kaunda Hancock has verbally committed to play football at the University of Toledo according to MichiganPreps.com. Hancock, 5-11 and 182 pounds, told MichiganPreps.com that he made his decision over the weekend and called Toledo and committed last night.

He is from Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, MI. According to Rivals.com, Hancock had offers from Toledo, Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse, Ball State, Buffalo, and Eastern Michigan. Michigan State was also recruiting him and he was scheduled for a visit next weekend and they were going to decide then whether or not to offer him. Hancock didn't want to wait though.

The following is an excerpt from what Hancock told MichiganPreps.com last night:

"If you talk about level of competition, next year we'll be playing Boise State. In two years we'll be playing Ohio State," Hancock noted. "If you are talking about championships and bowl games, you are talking about Toledo. One of the most winningest coaches in NCAA is Coach [Tom] Amstutz. In two years they will be making an indoor facility with a new weight room and there's lots more."

"He (Coach Carr) says they would like to use me as soon as I get in at slot receiver. He wants me to come to their spring practices and come in early," Hancock said. "I preferred the receiver position. Ever since I grew up, that's pretty much what I wanted to be and I know Toledo gets the ball to their receivers."

Hancock grew up in Florida before moving to Michigan. He mentioned that his long time friend, defensive end Claude Davis, committed to Toledo over the weekend and they will be rooming together at Toledo. Davis originally verbally committed to South Florida over the summer, but was a soft commit. He had offers from Toledo, South Florida, Louisville, and Ohio University. He also was going to visit Michigan State next weekend with a possibility of an offer from them, before committing to Toledo over the weekend. Davis is from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, FL.
