By Brian Nowicki Last Friday evening the Rockets held their annual football banquet, honoring the 2006 Rocket football team. It was a tough season for Toledo, but they ended it on a winning note with a 31-21 victory over arch-rival Bowling Green on November 21st. The Rockets finished the season 5-7, the first losing season since 1993. Toledo did win three of their last four games though. A young team hit by injuries and turnovers all year, Toledo defeated their biggest rivals in Northern Illinois and Bowling Green to salvage something from the season. Awards were handed out at the football banquet as follows: Jon Binder Memorial Award (top walk-on) - Matt Shumaker Golden Hammer Award (most big hits) - Mike Alston Daniel and Mary Jo Hanson Senior Scholar Athlete Award - Shaun Fitzgibbons Findlay Family Community Service Award - Steven Odom Gus Yeager Legacy Award - Brett Kern Norman Cohen Award (top freshman) - Barry Church Jim Nicholson Award (contributed the most to team's success) - Mike Alston Have a question or comment for Brian?
